Cape May is the most southern beach town in NJ. I have lived in NJ my whole life, and have never been…I guess because it is so far and I thought it was expensive. It is pretty far, and can be a bit expensive to stay there, but is definitely more affordable in the fall. I went in late September, it was still warm enough to go to the beach, and less crowded. Cape May is a beautiful beach town known for it’s Victorian charm. I’m sharing what I did on a weekend trip here in September and the best things to do when you visit!
Where to stay
I stayed at the Periwinkle Inn and would definitely recommend it! The grounds, pool and my room were all spotless. Although it’s an older Inn, the rooms were redone and they are super modern. You can’t beat the beach being directly across the street. Not only is this hotel prime beach location, it is only a 10-15 minute walk from all the restaurants and main part of town. I loved having the private balcony, I would sit there in the evenings as the sun was going down and was able to see the beach from there. The staff was super helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back at the Periwinkle Inn, for my next trip to Cape May.
Where to eat
The Mad Batter
Mad Batter has a cute atmosphere and is a delicious place to grab brunch!
Quincy’s Lobster Rolls
Without doubt the best lobster rolls in Cape May. Perfect amount of good quality lobster meat, on a good sized roll.
Congress hall
Congress Hall is a must in Cape May. There are several restaurants to eat at in Congress Hall, many of them serve food from ingredients from Beach Plum Farm.
The Ebbitt Room
My favorite restaurant in Cape May, by far. You can’t go to Cape May without trying The Ebitt Room!
What to do
Visit the Lighthouse
Walk around Washington Street Mall
Check out the Victorian houses
Visit Beach Plum Farm
Visit Willow Creek Winery
There is SO much to do in Cape May, even in the fall! In fact, I would recommend going late September or early October rather than the summer, because the hotels will be more affordable, and it will be a lot quieter. Cape May is such a picturesque little town, I am so happy I finally went!
